Bobby's Angel

On December 14 a very close friend of the family passed away. Bobby was only 45 and has 5 children. On December 16, my daughter Sarah totaled her truck. She swerved to miss a deer and hit a deep pothole which threw her into a fire hydrant. She told me that her guardian angel was on her shoulder. She said, Mom, Bobby was right there with me helping me guide my truck." Then she said she wanted an angel to carry so I made her "Bobby's Angel."

Olivia's Booties

I made another set of booties, for another darling little girl. Oliva. Her mom gave me the push I needed to get these things done, since she wouldn't set up the baptisim until her lace booties were done. I have to admit Olivia looked like a doll baby. This was the first pair that I made with beads. I put pink beads all around the top.

Even thoough this isn't tatting here is a video of my brother, Martin, being interviewed by Channel 5 News. He sets the fireworks for the Riverfest show here in Cincinnati.

CINCINNATI -- On Riverfest weekend, preparation is important, but nowhere is it more important to fans than on the innocuous-looking barge on the Ohio River.

That’s where the big booms will come from Sunday night.

"Basically we've completed the main sites and now the folks are completing the fronts which will give us all the great angles,” Rozzi’s Fireworks’ Martin Schaefer said.

It’s a floating fireworks machine gun, not only loaded with the trademark Rozzi's ammunition, but also with the element of surprise.

We always have something in there, and I think you'll see some interesting effects that you haven't see before this year,” Schaefer said.

Riverfest’s organizers say they want to make sure everyone knows the rules: No alcohol, no coolers, no pets and no grills.

At the Serpentine Wall, blankets can’t be put out until 6 a.m. Saturday.

And if you’re thinking of getting your boat along the shore in time for the fireworks, you might already be too late.

"Actually, we've been here two weeks," boater Kevin Heckle said.

The fireworks go airborne at 9:05 p.m. Sunday, though Riverfest itself begins at noon.

Snowman

I was showing Martha some pictures of my tatting and she really liked the snowman. I made one for each of her children and one for her. It was a honor to make them for such special friends. Just for fun I also made the wreaths. I had a great time making them.

Here is a baby gift card I made for one of Sarah's friends. I had the 2010 penny here at the house so that helped alot.

Cross of Lorraine

I have never tried to design before, but a friend of ours really likes the Cross of Lorraine. So I took an old pattern that I use to make crosses and re-did it to make a cross of Lorraine. I don't think it turned out to bad. I added the beads to help it stand out a little more.

Katies Booties

Here are the booties I made for Katherine Michelle. I didn't care for the way the motif laid on this pair so I purchased a set of pink rosettes and pinned them on the front. That way her Mommy can change colors if she would like.

Homer's Sash

Here is the sash that I made for Homer Brown. He told me the colors that he wanted and I was to make what ever pattern that I wanted. I think it turned out pretty good and he was very happy with it. There are over 150 treads to this warp. It took me 2 days to warp the loom and about a week to weave it.

PFC Matthew Baas' cross

My nephew PFC Matthew Baas is in the Army. And will be shipping out in a couple of months to Iraq. I tried to think of something I could tat that wouldn't be "girly" but would let him have something that I made him. So I tatted him the cross.

The cross is big enough to use a bookmark, but can be folded to carry in his wallet when he is in Iraq.

Matthew has such pride in his country, I made it in Red, White and Blue for the greatest country of all the good old USA.

Matthew we are so proud of you.

Rose Bowl Cross

I made 2 of these crosses for Sarah's band directors. I told them that there were 3 parts to the cross.

1. I thank God everyday that she had teachers like Greg Snyder and Tony Marinello. They are always there for her, either thru the good times or the bad times.

2. The Rose is for the 2008 Rose Parade. This started as a dream and thru hard work became a reality.

3. Since tatting is made up of tiny knots, every knot was a special memory that I have of Sarah's 4 years of band. While I was tatting these crosses, I watched the marching band videos or listened to the band playing on the CD's .

Laci Mai

This past Feb. I lost my best little friend. My Shih Tzu, Muffet, she was my tatting partner for 12 years. When I got out the shuttle, she would crawl on the couch and sit right next to me while I was working. Muffet would sit there whether I was tatting or weaving. We were only seperated when I went to work. It broke my heart when she crossed the Rainbow bridge. I haven't picked up my shuttles since she left me.

But on Saturday, my daughter and husband surprised me for Easter with a new little friend, please meet Laci Mai. She is also a little Shih tzu and has already won a place in my heart. When I sat down Saturday evening to finish a bookmark that I had started at the beginning of Feb. she crawled right over laid down on my lap and didn't move. I have another partner. She is named Laci because I make lace and Mai (May) because it has a nice country ring to it. Sarah wanted the I's at the end because it looked cool. I am still so excited. I hate going to work.

I need to get busy on Claire's hearts this week, and finish my bookmarks that I have started.

Inkle Weaving

One of my other favorite thing is weaving. My Dad built me a beautiful white oak Inkle loom (I will post a picture of it when I get it warped.) Here are some samples of my straps. I have made powder horn straps, flask straps, and possible bag straps. The longest part is warping the loom. The actual weaving goes quick.
These are using crochet thread. I also use 100% cotton string, yarn, and carpet warp.

Hanky Edge

Here is a hanky I made for an exchange. It went to England. I enjoyed the edge, but it took a long time, I kind of got bored doing the same thing.

Mom's Butterfly Doily

I made this for my Mom. It took me about 6 months to do. But in the meantime I received 2nd degree burns on my right arm. I spilt boiling water down my arm. I kept the arm proped up on a pillow and kept right on tatting. They said because I kept using my fingers and wrist it saved me from going thru phyical therapy. It stays on Mom's dining room table.

Fleur De Lis

One of the gentlemen that we re-enact with wanted a Fleur De Lis to sew onto his hat. I made him this one.
I used embroidery thread on this. It was the first time I had ever tried this. It was ok, but I like tatting thread better.

Eastern Star

Here is the Eastern Star I made for my husbands grandmother. She has been in the Eastern Star for years, and I wanted to make her something special. I made the Star and put it on a linen hanky. She loved it.

Here are some of the crosses that I have tatted and given away. My daughter wanted a passage cross so I just added the correct colors and a clover at the end. My Mom wanted the rose cross so that is what she received.

Here is a pair of Baby booties that I made for a friend of mine. They took a little longer than what I thought they would, but I made it 1 week in time for the baby, I have made 3 sets of these for Andrew, Morgan and Emma. I work with their parents.
